All chiropractors are registered by law under the Chiropractors Act 1994. The profession is regulated by the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and it is illegal to practise as a chiropractor without being registered with the GCC.
At Skelian Chiropractic Clinic all the chiropractors are registered with the GCC, they are also members of the British Chiropractic Association (BCA). The BCA only accepts chiropractors with a minimum four years full time degree and a professional qualification gained by a further year working in a supervised practice.

The number of treatments you will need depends enormously on the type of condition being treated, how severe it is, and how long you have had it for. However, your chiropractor will discuss your individual requirement with you after your initial consultation, so you will have some idea before any treatment commences.

No. Chiropractic is a primary health care profession, which means you can access your chiropractor simply by ringing them up. Chiropractors are trained to recognise when chiropractic care is appropriate and when it is not. If your condition would be better managed by another health care professional, then an appropriate referred will be made.
Most GP's are very happy to refer you to your chiropractor particularly if you need referral for insurance purposes. The British Medical Association issued guidelines to GPs in 2006 clarifying that there is no legal or ethical barriers in referring patients to chiropractors.
You do not necessarily need either. X-rays can tell us a lot about the structure of the spine as well as the amount and distribution of normal "wear and tear". They can also exclude other pathological processes, and of course show things such as fractures. They only tell us very little about soft tissue structures like ligament, muscle and the intervertebral disc. In the right circumstances x-rays are a valuable tool. An MRI scan is proving very useful in the identification of problems in the back, particularly of the intervertebral disc.
