Over half of mobile phone users suffer numbness or neck aches. One study discovered that 83% of people reported hand or neck pain while texting. The problem is due to bending the neck and looking down, which 90% of people do when using their smartphones. This is resulting in a “forward head posture”. This can result in neck pain, headaches, reduced lung capacity, and lead to chronic pain.
Vitamin D deficiency is extremely common. A recent study showed that over half of adults in the UK did not have enough vitamin D. Skelian Chiropractic Clinic test results show that 80% of those tested were below optimal levels, with 1 in 5 being severely deficient. There is clearly a major problem. Vitamin D in essential for growth and strong bones, but also for numerous other health conditions. Often the only symptoms are vague aches and tiredness. A new survey has revealed that up to two thirds of people in the South West have suffered with back or neck pain for up to 10 years. 41% admit that they have never done anything to actively protect their backs. There are lots of reasons, but the most significant is that modern lifestyles are putting an increasing amount of strain on our backs and necks. Sitting less and exercising more would help prevent many problems in the first place, but there is good evidence that being proactive in a number of other ways can make a real difference when you are actually in pain. The worst thing to do is nothing.
