I have been seeing Jamie for the last couple of months, and absolutely can’t recommend him enough. I love his holistic approach and looking at the bigger picture to try and piece together the reasons why my neck and hips are so painful. I always feel anxious when having to go to someone different when it comes to my health, but Jamie is so kind, friendly and understanding of people and how they are feeling. We have had some great results so far with my treatment and feel we are making some headway with all my aches and pains. If you are feeling nervous and not sure what to expect, Jamie is the guy for you.

I recently had a sports massage with Brad, due to extended periods of computer use, I suffer with neck and shoulder tension. Brad was able to work out all the knots in my back and shoulders. I have definitively felt the benefits ever since.

Brad gave me physio after I damaged my ankle ligaments playing rugby. Excellent in helping relieve the swelling initially then worked with me to help with recovery . Brad helped with taping up once I got back playing as well and my return was very swift

Brad has been working on my back and shoulders mostly over the last year and has given me exercises to do in my own time to strengthen and stretch the effected areas. I have recently had knee surgery so will be looking to him for some more physio work to help me achieve my goals in recovery! Brad offers a Fabulous service, good knowledge and a friendly face! Big thumbs up!!!

My experience with Skelian has been overwhelming positive. I have had lower back pain on and off for a good few years but Jamie has been able to assist with making things more comfortable for me since beginning treatment. I can’t thank Jamie enough for giving me the ability to train again without fear of enduring discomfort afterwards. Simply amazing service!!

Muscle Cramps and Spasms

Muscle cramps and spasms are involuntary, often painful contractions of the muscles that can occur in various parts of the body. They are common experiences that can range from a minor nuisance to a significant disruption in daily life.

What Causes Muscle Cramps and Spasms?

The exact cause of muscle cramps and spasms is not always known, but they can be associated with several factors:

  • Muscle fatigue and overuse, particularly during intense exercise.
  • Dehydration and electrolyte imbalances, which affect muscle function.
  • Poor circulation to the muscles, often experienced during prolonged periods of sitting or lying down.
  • Nerve compression, as seen in conditions like lumbar spinal stenosis, can lead to cramp-like symptoms in the legs.
  • Medical conditions, such as dystonia, can cause persistent muscle contractions and abnormal postures.
  • Medications and substances, including diuretics, statins, and caffeine, can contribute to cramping.
  • Nutritional deficiencies, such as low levels of potassium, calcium, or magnesium.

Treatment Options

Treatment for muscle cramps and spasms focuses on relieving immediate pain and preventing future occurrences:

  • Stretching and Massage: Gently stretching the affected muscle and massaging the area can help alleviate the cramp.
  • Hydration: Ensuring adequate fluid intake, especially with beverages that contain electrolytes, can prevent cramps related to dehydration.
  • Heat and Cold Therapy: Applying a heat pack can relax tense muscles, while cold therapy can reduce inflammation and pain.
  • Medications: Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can provide relief. In some cases, doctors may prescribe muscle relaxants.
  • Physical Therapy: A physical therapist can teach exercises to strengthen muscles and improve flexibility, reducing the risk of cramps.
  • Lifestyle Modifications: Avoiding tobacco, managing stress, and adjusting diet to ensure proper nutrient intake can help prevent muscle cramps.
