Hyaluronic Acid Injection

About Hyaluronic Acid Injections

Hyaluronic acid has been used in medicine for over 10 years to help relieve the pain and reduce the progression of osteoarthritis.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance within all joints; it has been shown to reduce in quality and quantity in arthritic joints.

Hyaluronic acid injections are the equivalent of performing an “oil change during a car service” for your joints. The result is increased lubrication, protection of cartilage and reduced pain from osteoarthritis.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance so there is no limit to the amount of injections you can have – unlike steroid injections.

Hyaluronic acid Injections can help with

  • Knee Osteoarthritis
  • Hip Osteoarthritis
  • Big Toe Osteoarthritis
  • Thumb Osteoarthtitis
  • Shoulder Pain

Please note we do not offer spinal injections. We have an excellent team of chiropractors that can help assist with any back or spinal problems.

What we offer

At Skelian we offer Hyaluronic acid injections as part of our specialist physiotherapist services.

Jonathan Wride our specialist physiotherapist, carries out the hyaluronic acid injections. He has extensive knowledge and experience so you are in safe hands.

We use Ultrasound guided injections because research has shown significantly better outcomes. Using guided rather than unguided ensures  you can target the specific injury.

All our hyaluronic acid injections follow a one-injection protocol using the premium brand ‘Ostenil Plus’. More information on this product can be found at ostenil.trbchemedica.co.uk. Typically there is a 70% response rate to hyaluronic acid injections with most people experiencing 6-12 months of pain relief.

What to expect

Hyaluronic acid injection is a treatment that is typically used when hands on treatment or exercise therapies have not helped your condition yet.

Usually diagnostic imaging ultrasound scans, x-rays or MRIs are used to confirm a diagnosis of arthritis. This is done before your Hyaluronic acid injection appointment.

During your first visit to ensure the right treatment for you, Jonathan will talk through your detailed medical history and assess your problem. Once Jonathan is happy that you are in the right place, he will talk you through how the procedure works before performing it.
