Jamie has been amazing. I was in such constant pain and couldn't do my regular exercise. Each appointment has brought marked improvement - and the emphasis is on fewer treatments not dependency. Highly recommend!

I have just had a 2 stage shoulder revision operation carried out on 5th February & as my arm has been in a sling since April last year my elbow has got very stiff so after seeing my consultant the other week & the physio at the hospital I decided to come to get extra help in between physio appointments. I have seen Will twice now & I can already feel an improvement with the movement & pain, he takes time to listen to any concerns you have & puts you at ease by explaining everything he is going to do. All the receptionists are very nice & always very cheerful even if they are having a bad day. I recommend this is the clinic to choose if you want excellent treatment at a reasonable price with free car parking on site & I have been to a few other clinics in the past but not a welcoming as this one.

After suffering from recent back pain, I have had several massages from Dani. These have helped hugely to relieve the pain and loosen up the muscles to move freely again. Dani takes time to understand the problem history and really put you at ease. As someone who has had back pain on and off over the years and had countless massages treatments, I can confidently say that Dani is very skilled at what she does and has a natural gift for massage.

Really great first ever experience for me at a Chiropractor. Amanda on reception was brilliant with me, whilst waiting for my appointment she chatted and calmly eased my nerves as a first timer. Likewise for Jamie, he made things so easy, explained everything clearly and really made sure I understood the whole process. Genuinely impressed on how they handled the whole process, definitely recommend!

Both me and my husband have received fantastic chiropractic care from Victoria and she is now our 'go-to' chiropractor. Recently, I hobbled in with painful lower back sprain and sciatica, which Victoria fixed in just two sessions. Her attention to detail and care is brilliant, and she has a lovely manner which puts you at ease. I've had chiropractic care before but was really impressed by the service here. Highly recommend Victoria and the team at Skellian.

I went to see Jamie with neck problems which were causing dizziness. After just 3 visits I am feeling much better, my neck feels much more relaxed. Not only has my neck improved but Jamie also found that some of the dizziness may be coming from an ear problem. At the last visit he carried out some manipulation and last night I only had a very short episode of dizziness as I turned over in bed. It is very reassuring to know that I can see Jamie when needed and I will get relief.

Fantastic treatment, can't recommend them enough. Tom helped with my various aches and joint pain from running and also gave me so much advice for my upcoming half marathon. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and very accommodating- helping to sort last minute appointments and change/alter when needed. I have seen a few different chiropractors at the clinic and they have all been very knowledgeable and explained everything so clearly. Tom particularly has been great and got me back out running pain-free.

Hip Labral Tear

Understanding Hip Labral Tears

What Is a Hip Labral Tear?

A hip labral tear occurs when the cartilage that lines and protects the hip socket (acetabulum) becomes damaged. This cartilage is called the labrum, and it plays a vital role in maintaining joint stability, smooth movement, and shock absorption within the hip joint. The most common cause of hip labral tears is femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), which results from abnormal contact between the femoral head and the acetabulum during hip movement.

Symptoms of Hip Labral Tears

The symptoms of a hip labral tear can vary, but they often include:

  • Hip Pain: Especially when bending, moving, exercising, or participating in sports.
  • Stiffness: You might feel restricted in your hip joint’s range of motion.
  • Clicking or Popping Sensation: When you move your hip.
  • Unsteadiness or Instability: Particularly when standing or moving.

Interestingly, some individuals with small labral tears may remain asymptomatic, unaware of the tear unless it’s incidentally detected during imaging for other issues.

How Does a Hip Labral Tear Feel?

The pain associated with a hip labral tear can vary based on the severity of the tear and any accompanying injuries. Here’s what patients typically experience:

Dull Ache: Often constant and deep within the hip joint.

Sharp and Stabbing Pain: Especially during specific positions or activities (such as lying on the affected side or during exercise).

Radiating Pain: Some people feel discomfort in the groin, lower back, or leg.

Altered Movement Patterns: Unconscious changes in posture due to pain can stress surrounding muscles and tissues.

Physiotherapy for Hip Labral Tears

Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in managing hip labral tears. Here’s how it can help:

Pain Reduction: Physiotherapists use manual therapy techniques to alleviate pain and improve hip joint mobility.

Strengthening: Targeted exercises help strengthen the muscles around the hip, providing better support and stability.

Range of Motion Improvement: Specific stretches and movements enhance joint flexibility.

Functional Training: Learning proper movement patterns and body mechanics helps prevent further strain on the hip.

Education: Patients receive guidance on activity modification, posture, and self-management strategies.

Preventing Hip Labral Tears

While some labral tears are unavoidable due to trauma or structural abnormalities, you can take steps to reduce your risk:

Avoid Overloading the Hip Joint: Be mindful of extreme hip positions during exercises or daily activities.

Maintain Hip Strength and Flexibility: Regular exercise, including targeted hip exercises, can help.

Listen to Your Body: If you experience hip pain or discomfort, seek professional advice promptly.

Remember, early intervention and a comprehensive physiotherapy program can significantly improve outcomes for individuals with hip labral tears. So, if you suspect you might have one, don’t hesitate to consult a healthcare provider or a skilled physiotherapist at our clinic in Cheltenham.
